Chinese Beef Stew
The use of star anise and of other oriental ingredients makes this a flavorful, thick stew.
- 1 kilo beef brisket, cut for stew
- ¼ kilo sea cucumber, cut into 1 inch strips
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp soya bean oil
- ¼ tsp ground pepper
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 cups water
- 2 star anise
- Roasted sesame seeds
- Leeks
1. Marinate beef brisket in soy sauce, sugar and pepper for about 15 minutes.
2. In casserole heat soya bean oil and saute garlic. Add marinated beef and cook over high heat to seal flavor.
3. Stir in water and cover casserole. Simmer until beef is almost tender.
4. Add anise and sea cucumber and simmer for another 15 to 20 minutes.
5. Transfer to a serving dish. Garnish with fresh leeks and roasted sesame seeds.
6. Serve hot.
